In the bowels of Reunion Arena, you really get the sound feel and smell of the 70's. It's as if they, the rock bands of the Arena era, never stopped touring. This is my second arena show, and i have to say, i really like it. I like the challenge, the whole ant colony like structure that goes on behind the scenes of an arena show. There are so many people, all going in different directions, all with different ideas of how to get the job done. Then there is the nerve center of the whole operation, the Production office, where I’m set up with my mobile office and trusty laptop (it's a Mac mind you:) From here all orders go out to the team captains, and from there the orders trickle down, from the union guys, the riggers and carpenters and all the audio dudes, man, this is an operation. I meet a lead guy today named Pinky, he's the kind of guy that if you were in a war, and needed to blow up a bridge, you would call Pinky. But here we don't need a bridge blown up, here they need half-pipes built and launch ramps constructed. Pinky makes it happen. I never, ever, ever imagined that i would have any interest in working tours like these, but after these couple shows... man i think i could do this. Well, we'll just have to see. Anyway, as soon as merch gets settled up, we split for the hotel and make our way to San Antonio. Home of the Riverwalk and the world famous Alamo (which does not have a basement.) After the show tomorrow, the tour is over, and i scoot, to think, to hang out, to soak up a little California. I've got a ton to think about during these upcoming weeks. And of course, there's always that attempt at writing the great American novel that I’m always talking about. Shoots. I've learned a shit ton this tour and even more in the last couple days, it will take awhile to reflect on it all, good thing i have two whole weeks off to contemplate my next move.
